Draymond Green Looking For Four-Year, $138.4M Extension From Warriors

Jul 27, 2022 10:29 PM

Draymond Green reportedly "wants" and believes he is deserving of a four-year max contract extension, sources told Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic.

Green will be eligible for the extension on August 3.

The forward, who will make $25.8 million next season, has a player option in 2023-24. Green could opt out and sign a four-year extension, which would be worth $138.4 million.

The Warriors currently have no plans to offer Green the max extension, according to reports. The Athletic adds that Steph Curry would be unhappy should the team lose Green because they did not want to pay him.

Green is willing to explore "outside options" to receive a deal closer to what he's looking for.

Green would be 37 years old at the end of his desired extension.

Warriors Sign Lacrosse Star Pat Spencer To Training Camp Deal

Jul 26, 2022 9:52 AM

The Golden State Warriors have signed Pat Spencer to a non-guaranteed training camp deal. Spencer played part of last season for the Capital City Go-Go of the G League.

Spencer is most well-known for being an NCAA lacrosse star while at Loyola University. Spencer was a three-time finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, before winning the trophy as a senior. The award honors the top collegiate lacrosse player, similar to the Heisman Trophy in football or the Wooden Award in basketball.

Following his time at Loyola, Spencer transferred to Northwestern University for a post-graduate year. In one season for the Wildcats, Spencer averaged 10.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists.

Before joining the Go-Go, Spencer played part of a season for the Hamburg Towers in Germany. The 6-foot-3 guard played for Washington at Las Vegas Summer League earlier this month, averaged 6.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and four assists in 13.1 minutes per game.

Nets Not High On Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole In Kevin Durant Trade

Jul 23, 2022 10:27 AM

There have been rumors that the Golden State Warriors have had discussions on bring Kevin Durant back to the Bay Area. Even though Warriors GM Bob Myers said "I like our team", the rumors still persist.

The Nets don't seem motivated to take on Andrew Wiggins or Jordan Poole in a potential Durant deal. ESPN's Zach Lowe said Brooklyn isn't high on either player, which would leave the Warriors offering a package of younger, unproven players for Durant.

Another challenge in a potential Warriors-Nets trade is that Wiggins would probably have to be a part of it for salary-matching reasons. Because Wiggins is heading into the final year of a designated player extension, there are complications for Brooklyn. The Nets have already traded for Ben Simmons while he is on a designated player extension. Teams cannot trade for two players who have signed designated player extensions.

The 6-foot-10 center played Summer League for the Boston Celtics. Williams averaged 7.4 points and 6.6 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game off the bench for the Summer Celtics.

Bob Myers: I Like Our Team Where It's At

Jul 21, 2022 8:53 PM

The Golden State Warriors were never likely to seriously pursue a trade for Kevin Durant and it appears they're prepared to defend their title with most of their roster from last season in tact.

“I like our team and where it’s at,” Myers told NBA.com. “I want to give the guys a chance to do it again.”

The Warriors lost Gary Payton II and Otto Porter in free agency while re-signing Kevon Looney.

“It’s a good group. We’re lucky. It’ll be fun to see,” Bob Myers said. “We were really hunting last year. Now I guess we’re back to being the hunted, which I didn’t think we’d be. We’ll see. I think we can handle it.”

Joe Lacob Fined $500K By NBA For Publicly Discussing Collective Bargaining Talks

Jul 20, 2022 11:19 PM

The NBA fined Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob for violating the league's policy by publicly discussing collective bargaining talks.

Lacob called the luxury tax system "very unfair" on a recent episode of the Point Forward Podcast hosted by Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner.

The NBA currently forbids owners from "unauthorized communications regarding collective bargaining."

"The truth is, we're only $40 million more than the luxury tax. Now, that's not small but it's not a massive number. We're $200 million over in total because most of that is this incredible penal luxury tax. And what I consider to be unfair and I'm going to say it on this podcast and I hope it gets back to whoever is listening. Obviously, it's self-serving for me to say this, but I think it's a very unfair system because our team is built by ... all top eight players are all drafted by this team," said Lacob on the podcast.

The Warriors paid $171 million in luxury tax this past season, and are projected to pay $181 million next season.
