Warriors Keep Klay Thompson Out Of Both Preseason Games In Japan

Sep 30, 2022 10:14 AM

The Golden State Warriors will not play Klay Thompson in either of their two preseason games in Japan.

The Warriors held just three practices in San Francisco before their flight to Japan last Wednesday.

"Just feel more comfortable giving him a little more of a ramp up," Steve Kerr said ahead of the Warriors' 96-87 win over the Washington Wizards on Friday. "He's just not quite ready to play at this point just based on where, you know, we're so early in camp. We just want to be safe and make sure he gets a good ramp up before he plays in games."

Thompson was under a strict restriction last season as he worked his way back from a torn ACL and Achilles.

"Just coming off the two years with the injuries, this is really unique to play a game after 3½ practices so we're just being cautious and trying to do the smart thing," Kerr said.

'Some Wonder' In 2021 Whether Stephen Curry Would Extend With Warriors

Sep 29, 2022 4:07 PM

A few years ago, the relationship of LeBron James and Stephen Curry appeared to improve from the peak of their rivalry when they met in The Finals in four straight seasons.

James may have had an ulterior motive thinking he could recruit Curry to the Los Angeles Lakers when it looked like the Golden State Warriors might be unable to reload into a title contender. Curry's contract status was also in doubt amongst some within the league before he signed a four-year, $215 million extension in 2021.

"There was some wonder about whether Curry would take that last contract with Golden State," said Brian Windhorst on The Bill Simmons Podcast. "Now, look, there ended up being zero point zero drama. The Warriors offered the full boat, but he had some injury issues. The Warriors were looking at a $400 million payroll. Nobody was sure they were going to do it, but I thought he was, you know, giving him the wink, wink and was like 'Hey, you know, if you don't take that last contract you can come down to the Lakers.'

"That's what happened with Kyrie [Irving]. When Kyrie was heading toward free agency and it was clear he wasn't going to stay in Boston, LeBron all of a sudden, the two of them kind of mended that fence. And I think it was based on that, the concept of playing together again in L.A. It didn't work out. It didn't happen."

Draymond Green On Getting Contract Extension Before Season: 'I Don't Think It Will Happen'

Sep 26, 2022 1:22 AM

Draymond Green admitted that he doesn't think he'll come to an agreement on a contract extension with the Golden State Warriors before the start of the regular season.

“I don’t think it will happen, and so for me, I’m just focused on this season and being as great as I can be and as I know I’m capable of being and winning another championship and reaching my individual goals that I have as well," said Green on Sunday.

Green is rumored to be looking for an extension in the area of four years and $138.4 million.

Bob Myers recently expressed his desire of extending Green, in addition to Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins.

Bob Myers On Extending Draymond Green, Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins: 'We Want All Those Guys'

Sep 22, 2022 10:38 PM

Bob Myers expressed his desire of extending the contracts of Draymond Green, Jordan Poole, and Andrew Wiggins, though was realistic about the team's salary cap situation.

"We want all of those guys. Can we get all of them? I don't know. It depends on what the money ends up being. What the ask is what we can end up doing. We're not at a point to make those decisions yet.

"Some of these decisions may be made in the next two weeks, some might be made in the next seven, eight months," said Myers on Thursday.

Poole can sign a rookie extension until October 17, with Wiggins set to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. Green has a player option for the 2023-24 season.

Myers said that he will meet with Poole's representatives once the team gets back from Japan. He also added that he met with Green and Wiggins' representatives but nothing came from those conversations.

The Warriors paid around $346 million in salary and luxury taxes last season, becoming the most expensive team in NBA history.

Warriors Expect Andre Iguodala To Play One More Season

Sep 18, 2022 1:24 PM

The Golden State Warriors expect Andre Iguodala to return for one more season in 2022-23. Iguodala intends to announce his decision on his podcast with Evan Turner in the next week or so.

Iguodala played 19.4 minutes per game over 31 regular season games last season. The veteran forward averaged 4.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists in his 18th season.

The Warriors prize Iguodala for his veteran leadership. Despite battling injuries last season, Iguodala's presence helped Golden State through some rough patches during the season, including in the playoffs.

Steph Curry On Potentially Reuniting With Kevin Durant: 'Hell, Yeah'

Sep 12, 2022 1:27 AM

Steph Curry admitted his excitement when he heard rumors of the Golden State Warriors potentially trading for Kevin Durant, telling Rolling Stone that his former teammate was "misunderstood."

“I was never hesitant. The idea of playing with KD and knowing who he is as a person, from our history in those three years, I think KD’s a really good dude. I think he is misunderstood.

"I think he has had certain things happen in his life that hurt his ability to trust people around him, in a sense of making him feel safe at all times. So all of those things, I understand, having played with him and gotten to know him. I love that dude," Curry told Matt Sullivan.

Curry said that he ran through the lineup possibilities with Durant before adding that he has complete confident in his current teammates to repeat as NBA champions.

“And if you said, ‘Oh, KD’s coming back, and we’re gonna play with him,’ I had so much fun playing with him those three years, I’d be like, ‘Hell, yeah!’ Then you have to think: What does that actually mean? What does it look like? You tell me I’m playing with [current Warriors teammates Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole, and Draymond Green], I’m like, ‘Hell, yeah!’...but you also understand, like, if we run this thing back, I’ve got complete confidence in my team that we can win it again, as constructed," said Curry.

There were reports in early July that the Warriors had interest in trading for Durant.

The Nets and Durant then announced in late August that the forward would not be traded, ending any trade speculation.

Andre Iguodala Remains Undecided On Continuing Career

Sep 6, 2022 2:41 PM

Andre Iguodala remains undecided on whether he will return to the Golden State Warriors for the 22-23 season.

If Iguodala does return, the Warriors theoretically have a 15th and final roster spot available to one of their camp invites. The Warriors could also leave it open and enter the season with 14 players on the roster while also saving on the luxury tax.

Iguodala appeared in 31 games last season in his return to the Warriors.

The Warriors are expected to fill their open training camp roster spot out of the free agents coming to the Bay Area.

Mac McClung, Jerome Robinson, Trevion Williams and Pat Spencer make up the young group of non-guaranteed camp invitees also competing for the back end of the Warriors’ roster.
