Rockets To Release Brandan Wright, Sign Le'Bryan Nash

Mar 23, 2018 1:13 PM

The Houston Rockets will release Brandan Wright.

Wright played in just one game for the Rockets before soreness in his right knee forced the team to shut him down.

Wright had a minor procedure and will work on his rehab with the Rockets.

The Rockets will sign Le'Bryan Nash for the open roster spot.

Nash isn't in Houston's immediate plans but the move gives them potential future Bird rights.

Chris Paul Not Expected To Miss Time With Sore Hamstring

Mar 21, 2018 3:40 PM

Chris Paul played with soreness in his hamstring during the Rockets' win at Portland on Tuesday.

Paul doesn't expect to miss any time.

“I’m cool,” Paul said. “I’m good. I’m good. I be fine.”

The Rockets are attempting to wrap up homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs.

“He’s fine,” Mike D’Antoni said. “He just felt it a little bit. Anytime I tried to take him out, he gave me the death stare. He said he’s fine. If not, we’ll let him sit for a couple games, a couple days, but he said he is fine.”

Mike D'Antoni, Joe Johnson Believe Rockets' Offense Superior To 2000s Suns

Mar 13, 2018 2:25 PM

Joe Johnson and Mike D'Antoni both feel like this year's Rockets have a more potent offensive game than the peak Suns of the mid-2000s.

“By far,” Johnson told said on Sunday when asked if this was the best offense he's played in. “In my 17 seasons, by far.”

The Rockets lead the NBA in offensive efficiency in Chris Paul's first season playing with James Harden.

“With the ballhandlers we have with C.P. and James, I think the dynamic on this team is so much different,” Johnson said. “And we’re so much deeper. We have great ball movement — everybody gets a chance to touch it and feel like they’re a part of it.”

Said D’Antoni: “When one guy has to make all the plays all the time, it wears them out. That’s what happened to us in Phoenix with Steve, and it happened to James last year. You combine the two and it makes a big difference — I hope. We’ll see.”

LeBron James Expected To Decide Between Cavs, Lakers, 76ers, Rockets

Mar 8, 2018 1:25 PM

LeBron James will likely be a free agent this offseason and sources say he'd only currently consider joining the Cavaliers, Lakers, Rockets and 76ers.

The Cavaliers can re-sign James to a five-year max contract, while the Lakers and 76ers can create max cap space.

For James to join the Rockets, he'd likely need to orchestrate an opt-in-and-trade similar to Chris Paul's move last June from the Clippers to Houston.

James was previously a free agent in 2010, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Scott Brooks, Mike D'Antoni Named Coaches Of The Month

Mar 1, 2018 8:14 PM

Scott Brooks and Mike D’Antoni have been named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Coaches of the Month, respectively, for games played in February.

Brooks led the Wizards to an 8-4 record in February, including a 6-1 mark on the road, as Washington took over first place in the Southeast Division and moved up to fourth place in the Eastern Conference.  Playing the entire month without All-Star guard John Wall, the Wizards defeated five of the seven other teams currently among the top eight in the East.

Washington opened February with a 122-119 home win over the current East-leading Toronto Raptors.  The Wizards’ road success featured victories at the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks.  For the month, Washington led the East in assists (29.3 apg) and ranked third in field goal percentage (48.6).

Under D’Antoni, the NBA-leading Rockets went 12-0 in February, marking the third time in team history that they have gone unbeaten in a calendar month with at least 10 games.  Houston ended the month with a 14-game winning streak, becoming the sixth team in NBA history with two winning streaks of at least 14 games in a season.  At 48-13, Houston has its best-ever record through 61 games and a half-game lead over the Golden State Warriors for the best record in the Western Conference and overall.
