Paul Pierce '50-50' On Retiring

Apr 30, 2016 10:48 AM

Paul Pierce says he's "50-50" on whether he'll retire this offseason.

Pierce signed a three-year, $10 million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers last offseason.

Pierce struggled in his first season with the Clippers after a successful run in 14-15 with the Washington Wizards. Pierce's PER dropped from 15.1 with the Wizards to 8.2 with the Clippers and his minutes fell to under 20 per game.

Paul Pierce Will Decide Upon Possible Retirement After Season

Apr 21, 2016 3:20 PM

Paul Pierce had a postseason DNP-CD in the Los Angeles Clippers' Game 2 win. It was the first of his career as his minutes continue to decline.

Pierce averaged just 18.1 minutes per game this season, scoring 6.1 points and connecting on 36.3 percent of his shots.

Pierce hopes to influence the Clippers even as a mentor but he's frustrated not to be out there.

"It is what it is," Pierce told The Vertical, his voice trailing off. "It is what it is. It's difficult. As a competitor, you want to compete and help your team win. A close game – I've been in those situations lots of times. When you have competed at a high level, it's difficult."

This playoffs run with the Clippers could be the final games of Pierce's career.

"The last few years it has been an end-of-the-season decision," Pierce told The Vertical. "I'll make that decision after this season, too."

Few within the Clippers' organization would be surprised if Pierce decides to retire.

LeBron Compares Chris Paul To Stockton While Watching 1997 WCF

Apr 14, 2016 10:53 AM

LeBron James was live-Tweeting watching Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals of 1997 between the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets.

The game was airing on NBATV while the Golden State Warriors were playing the San Antonio Spurs on TNT.

James gave praise to Chris Paul, who has been one of his closest friends throughout his career.

"A lot of people compare @CP3 to Isiah Thomas but I think he's similar to Stockton. They get everyone involved throughout the game.... rarely shoot the ball, but when they do they rarely miss. Leaders and of course feisty as h-e double hockey sticks!"

The comments about Paul and Stockton could be interpreted as a subtweet to Kyrie Irving.

Parsons Remains Close To Dwight, Not At All With DeAndre

Apr 7, 2016 12:13 AM

Chandler Parsons has remained close to Dwight Howard after nearly two years of no longer being teammates.

Howard will be a free agent this offseason and the Dallas Mavericks are expected to pursue him.

"We have ongoing talks and text messages still to this day. He's one of my good friends. It's cool that we could have the opportunity to go into free agency this summer together," said Parsons.

"I've expressed how I think he can be one of the dominant players in this league. I think he still has a lot left in the tank. He gets criticized a lot for whatever reason, but I still think he can be one of the best big men in the league and a game-changer. He's not that old [Howard is 30]. He still has a lot left in the tank."

Parsons became close to DeAndre Jordan during the Mavericks' courtship of him last offseason, but they have since drifted apart.

"Pretty nonexistent, honestly," said Parsons "Me and DJ obviously got super close during that time. It's kind of in the past now for both of us. He's made his decision and has had a decent year in L.A., so I'm happy for him. They're a team that's a contender this year. I've said many times I'm over it. He didn't do anything illegal.

I still think he would have been a much better player individually here in Dallas. You never know what's going to happen in the upcoming years. He's a good dude at heart.

Kobe Bryant: Chris Paul Would Have Been Perfect Fit For Lakers

Apr 4, 2016 1:44 PM

After the Los Angeles Lakers agreed to trade for Chris Paul in 2011, he and Kobe Bryant had a phone call that lasted about 20-30 minutes.

"You know me. My dream isn't to win games," Bryant recalled to ESPN this week. "It's like, 'How many of these titles are we going to win [together]?' Because if we don't win, we're a failure."

"It was crazy," Paul told ESPN this week. "It was exciting. We talked about potentially being teammates and all that stuff like that. Then, in the blink of an eye, gone."

The NBA vetoed the trade and Paul was ultimately traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Bryant and Paul would have to share the ball in the Lakers' backcourt.

"It worked for the Olympic team and stuff like that," Paul said. "I played in a lot of All-Star Games with Kobe. I don't know how many, but I remember one of them, we said, 'As long as we're both on the same team playing this game, we're not going to lose,' just because we both know how competitive we are."

"When we played together in every All-Star Game, we never f---- around," Bryant said. "It was like, 'Listen, the guys have their fun, but now let's do what we do.' I knew how competitive he was, and I knew it would be a perfect fit. We just kind of talked about what we're going to do, how we're going to scheme to get things done. Unfortunately, it never happened."

The trade is one of the biggest what-ifs of NBA history.

"Things would've been very, very, very different around here," Bryant said, "with two of the most competitive people the league has ever seen."

Blake Griffin To Resume Season Despite Tear In Quad

Apr 2, 2016 4:48 PM

Blake Griffin will resume his season on Sunday and will play despite a tear remaining in his quad.

Griffin has been out for more than three months with the quad injury, a broken hand and a four-game suspension.

"It just wasn't being allowed to heal," Griffin said before practice. "So, the tear's still there. It's just about managing the pain and getting through this. ... It's not like a new tear or re-tearing my [quad] in different places. It wasn't allowing the initial injury to completely heal."

Griffin suffered the quad injury on Christmas and was close to returning from that injury before he broke his hand punching the Clippers' equipment manager.

"I don't want to say misdiagnosed, but it wasn't doing the right things, I guess? We weren't addressing the initial problem -- the main problem," Griffin said. "So, everything I was doing was putting more stress on my [quad]. A small tear became a three-month thing because I wasn't doing the right thing until we figured it out."
