Carmelo Anthony Reportedly On Leon Rose's Radar Since Taking Over Knicks In March

Carmelo Anthony has been on the New York Knicks' radar since Leon Rose took over as president in March, league sources told Marc Berman of the New York Post.

Rose was Anthony's agent while at Creative Artists Agency.

League sources believed that Anthony wanted to end his career with the Knicks when the season was paused due to the pandemic, though sentiments may have changed due to the Blazers' play inside the bubble.

Anthony said following the Blazers' season-ending loss to the Lakers that he wants to remain in Portland.

Anthony averaged 15.4 points and 6.3 rebounds on the season.

The New York Knicks will hire Mike Woodson, Andy Greer and Dice Yoshimoto as assistant coaches on the staff of Tom Thibodeau.

Woodson was previously head coach of the Knicks.

Greer joined Thibodeau's staff with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2016 and left the franchise with him in January of 2019.

Yoshimoto worked with Thibodeau with both the Chicago Bulls and Wolves.

The Knicks previously hired Johnnie Bryant and Kenny Payne as assistant coach.

The Washington Wizards have made re-signing Davis Bertans a priority in free agency, but they're expected to have competition from rival teams.

The Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns are expected to pursue Bertans, sources tell Chase Hughes of NBC Sports

The Hawks will have the most cap space in the NBA.

Washington will be able to go over the cap to re-sign Bertans by owning his Bird rights. League sources expects Bertans to sign for $15 million to $20 million per season.

Fred VanVleet is expected to be one of the NBA's most coveted free agents this offseason. VanVleet re-signed with the Toronto Raptors in 2018 on a two-year, $18 million deal as a restricted free agent. VanVleet will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. 

Sources that spoke with Shams Charania of The Athletic indicated that the Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns are expected to pursue VanVleet in addition to Toronto. 

Bobby Marks of ESPN reported in December that VanVleet could command $25 million to $30 million per season in free agency. 

VanVleet averaged a career high 17.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.9 steals in 35.7 minutes per game.

Florida State guard Devin Vassell is reportedly drawing interest within the New York Knicks organization for the upcoming draft, sources told Ian Begley of SNY.

The Knicks have the 8th pick in the draft.

"Vassell...has some fans at Madison Square Garden," reported Begley.

The 19-year-old Vassell averaged 12.7 point and 5.1 rebounds last season at Florida State.

The New York Knicks worked out Shai Gilgeous-Alexander before the 2018 NBA Draft, sources told Ian Begley of SNY.

The Knicks would end up drafting Kevin Knox with the ninth selection due to his size and shooting ability he displayed at Kentucky.

Gilgeous-Alexander would go two picks later to the Hornets, before his rights were traded to the Clippers.

Leon Rose is reportedly not sold on Knox's future with the team.

Knox averaged 6.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game last season.

While there was internal support for Mike Miller to remain with the New York Knicks as an assistant coach, he will pursue other opportunities due to the presumed hierarchy of the bench.

Johnny Bryant and Kenny Payne would likely be ahead of Miller on Tom Thibodeau's bench, while Mike Woodson is also expected to be hired and would be ahead of him.

Miller impressed Leon Rose during their time together. 

Miller replaced David Fizdale as interim head coach during the 19-20 season.

The NBA and NBPA have reached agreement for the eight teams not involved in the restart in Orlando to conduct voluntary group workouts while residing in campus settings. 

There had been discussions about the teams participating in a second bubble with team workouts and scrimmages, but the union had resisted that concept.

The Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks were not invited to participate int he league's restart in Orlando. 

The program is scheduled to take place between Sept. 14 and Oct. 6.
