Marbury Inactive For Foreseeable Future

Oct 31, 2008 6:33 PM

Stephon Marbury will be inactive for Friday's game between the Knicks and Sixers in Philadelphia and Mike D'Antoni says that Marbury will remain inactive for the foreseeable future.

"Either he has a big part of the pie or none and [Wednesday] night was none," Mike D'Antoni said. "And he felt it was tough just sitting there like that. So if we were going to go for that decision, then we decided that it would be probably better that he doesn?t dress. Otherwise, it's hard for him to sit there. I understood that."

"I?m not frusturated at all," Marbury said. "I have no control over it. If it was raining outside, I can't get mad if it?s raining. I?ve got to go get an umbrella and then walk in the rain. I have no control over the situation. The coach makes the decision on who plays and who?s not going to play and obviously, right now he feels like I?m not one of the guys that?s going to be playing."

Speaking about whether he felt he had played his last game in a Knick uniform, Marbury said, "I didn't go that far. I?m not there. I?m not in that place."

"I want to stress, he?s been great," D'Antoni said. "He did everything we asked, he came ready. So it?s really just two things collided and I just couldn?t make this fit. I want to be respectful to him and everything, he?s been in the league a long time. This is the best thing I can come up with."

Anthony Roberson will be activated for Friday's game.

Iguodala: Sixers Inspired By Phillies

Oct 31, 2008 10:04 AM

76ers' swingman Andre Iguodala has been inspired by the World Series triumph of the Philadelphia Phillies.

"We're trying to win a championship . . . that's our goal," Iguodala said Wednesday.

"Last year, we lost our first game, and we said we were building. Now, we've got to get it rolling. Even though there are some new guys here, we've got to keep pushing, get that ball rolling faster, rather than waiting around until February to start playing well."

Iguodala took the microphone prior to the team's opener, a loss to the Raptors on Wednesday night, and expressed his excitement over the Phillies' success.

Philadelphia center Samuel Dalembert returned to practice for the first time in a week on Saturday after injuring his knee.

He wore a brace on his right knee and appeared to be moving freely at the end of practice.

Dalembert hadn't practiced since Oct. 17 and missed the team's last three preseason games.

"The beginning was kind of tough, getting a little stiff a little bit," he said. "As practice progressed, it began getting a little loose. I tried to keep myself in the game without stopping too much to try to get it back quicker."

Dalembert Remains Sidelined With Flu, Knee Injury

Oct 21, 2008 10:05 AM

Philadelphia center Samuel Dalembert is still sidelined with both a sprained and bruised right knee and the flu.

Dalembert may not play in Tuesday night's preseason game against the Cavaliers or Wednesday's finale in New Jersey.

"You'd certainly like to have seen him, no question, and get some game situations with him in there," said Sixers' Coach Maurice Cheeks. "It would have been ideal, but it's not. We have a week after the last game on Wednesday (prior to the opener) to work that out."

Marshall: I'll Help 76ers Any Way I Can

Oct 18, 2008 10:41 AM

76ers' forward Donyell Marshall is happy to be in Philadelphia and claims that he'll help the team any way he can this season.

"I?m going to be somebody that?s going to help Marreese Speights and talk to Reggie (Evans) and Sammy (Dalembert) and help those guys come along," Marshall said Friday. "I?m going to play, but not a lot. I know that, but I knew that once I signed here. We had a talk with Ed (Stefanski) and Mo (Cheeks) and pretty much knew what the situation was going to be.

"I?m here to help in any way, shape or form, whether it?s play, whether it?s being a mentor, whether it?s to yell at a player so coach doesn?t have to. Whatever it?s going to take to help this team win."
