Brand Likes Being Out Of Lakers' Shadow?

Jul 28, 2008 12:20 PM

Elton Brand listed out some of the reasons why he decided to choose Philadelphia over remaining with the Los Angeles Clippers this summer.

"Being closer to family," said Brand.  "My wife (Shahara) is from Newark, N.J., and I'm from Peekskill, N.Y. We're expecting our first child soon so it's good to have a family support group reasonably close by.

"The passion of the Philadelphia fans. That can propel you to winning. We have our own city; we're not sharing it with the Lakers. Los Angeles is definitely a Lakers' town, and with all their success they deserve it."

Bobcats Not Entertaining Sign And Trade Offers For Okafor

Jul 26, 2008 1:38 AM

Despite nothing being imminent in terms of an agreement, the Charlotte Bobcats remain confident that they can retain starter Emeka Okafor, the Associated Press is reporting.

Despite reports to the contrary, GM Rod Higgins also said they are not entertaining any sign and trade offers for the former second overall selection.

"As we've repeatedly stated, we want Emeka Okafor back on our basketball team," Higgins said. "We're going to continue to have that hope that we will have a resolution and go forward."

With no team having the cap space to take advantage of their restricted status, Okafor is in the same situation as Andre Iguodala (Philadelphia), Josh Smith (Atlanta), Luol Deng (Chicago), and Ben Gordon (Chicago), all of thom are restricted, without a contract, and are in the midst of drawn out negotiations.
