The 76ers will likely take the best player available in this month's NBA Draft instead of drafting based on need, according to Philly Blurbs.
?Ed Stefanski's philosophy is the same as ours in the past,? Vice President Tony DiLeo said. ?If there are players who are on the same level, we will look more toward need and fill a position. But if a player stands out, it doesn't matter which position that player is.?
?Whoever we draft probably won't have a big impact next year,? DiLeo said. ?We were a little surprised with Thaddeus (Young, the 12th pick in 2007) and how much of an impact he had this year for us. But usually a player we draft will have an impact a couple of years down the line."
?The needs really aren't the biggest thing right here. It's just that we get a good player who will fit into the way we play and that will fit in, personality-wise, into our team.?
Philadelphia has the 16th overall pick in this month's draft, and in his latest mock draft RealGM.com editor Christopher Reina lists Robin Lopez as their selection.
