P.J. Tucker Arrested In May For 'Super Extreme' DUI

Jul 28, 2014 8:34 PM

P.J. Tucker was arrested in May for a "super extreme DUI" by Scottsdale police.

Tucker's blood alcohol content registered at .201 on a preliminary breath test in the field on May 10, according to Scottsdale police. A driver is considered legally drunk for a DUI charge in Arizona at .08 blood-alcohol content. A blood test administered after Tucker was taken to jail and later analyzed by Arizona DPS showed his blood alcohol-content to be .222, according to the police report. A super extreme DUI is .20 or more.

Last week, Tucker signed a three-year, $16.5 million contract ($12.7 million guaranteed) with the Suns. The Suns were aware of the charges before signing Tucker to his deal.

Bledsoe: Suns Using Restricted Free Agency Rules Against Me

Jul 27, 2014 12:19 AM

Eric Bledsoe made his first comments Saturday since entering restricted free agency on July 1.

Bledsoe remains unsigned after receiving a four-year, $48 million offer from the Phoenix Suns.

"I'm letting my agent Rich Paul handle it," Bledsoe said. "You know, I understand the Phoenix Suns are using restricted free agency against me but I understand that."

The Suns are the only team that can give Bledsoe a five-year contract and that could be worth up to $84 million, leaving open the possibility that Bledsoe's camp could desire a sign-and-trade.

The Suns have stated they hope to re-sign Bledsoe.

Suns Maintain Hope Of Re-Signing Eric Bledsoe

Jul 22, 2014 9:17 AM

Eric Bledose has yet to sign with an NBA team in restricted free agency, and the Phoenix Suns remain a likely option.

"We'll continue to work as hard as we can within that restricted free agency system established by the collective bargaining agreement," Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby said Monday. "We continue to hope and expect that he will remain in a Suns uniform."

The Suns have been negotiating with Bledsoe and have the right to match any offer sheet. Bledsoe has sought a maximum-level contract.

Bledsoe has a $3.7 million qualifying offer that he could choose to play for next season and then become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Eric Bledsoe Reject Four-Year, $48M Offer From Suns

Jul 18, 2014 3:41 AM

Eric Bledsoe has rejected a four-year, $48 million contract offer from the Phoenix Suns.

Bledsoe is a restricted free agent and is seeking a max deal of $80 million over five seasons.

The Suns acquired Bledsoe last offseason from the Los Angeles Clippers.

The thought that the Suns will match any offer Bledsoe receives from a competing club has deterred teams from aggressively pursuing Bledsoe.

Suns To Keep Shavlik Randolph Beyond Contract Guarantee Date For 14-15

Jul 17, 2014 6:20 PM

The Phoenix Suns will keep forward Shavlik Randolph past his contract guarantee date Thursday, his agent Joel Bell told RealGM.

The Suns faced a decision on whether to fully guarantee Randolph's deal or release him on Thursday.

Randolph played in the Chinese Basketball Association last season and signed with the Suns in March. The 6-foot-10 big man resurrected his NBA career in 2013 for the Boston Celtics, averaging 4.2 points, 4.4 rebound and 12.4 minutes per game in 16 appearances.

Randolph, 30, has averaged 2.5 points and 2.6 rebounds in his seven-year NBA career.

Anthony Tolliver Reaches Two-Year, $6M Deal With Suns

Jul 22, 2014 1:23 AM

Free agent Anthony Tolliver has reached agreement on a two-year, $6 million contract with the Phoenix Suns, league sources told RealGM.

His agent, Larry Fox, confirmed the deal on Tuesday night.

On the first day of free agency, every NBA general manager received a hard copy 20-page presentation highlighting Tolliver as the 15th best three-point shooter in the league, his 48.2 percent three-point percentage in the fourth quarter and the strong plus-minus ratios in his career. Tolliver and Fox scoured the free agent market for the best opportunity to play his most effective position as a stretch power forward and 13 teams expressed interest throughout the process.

In Phoenix, Tolliver helps fill the void left by the departure of Channing Frye and gives the Suns a positive veteran leader, proven shooter and member of the executive committee in the NBA players union. Tolliver averaged 6.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 41.3 percent shooting from three-point range last season for the Charlotte Hornets.

“It’s a great opportunity for me,” Tolliver said by phone. “I went into this free agency and it worked out perfectly when Phoenix contacted my agent. With a great nucleus of young players, and the respect I have for Ryan [McDonough], Jeff Hornacek and the entire organization, it’s a perfect situation. For me, I want to go in there and help any way I can.

“The Suns are an up tempo team, and when I was with Golden State I had a similar style. I’m able to produce at a high level and this style compares to that Golden State team. I can play the three as well, but my natural position is four, rebounding, hitting open shots. The Suns made it clear I’m coming to play the four. Phoenix is a great city, a great family city.”

Tolliver, 29, has averaged 6.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in six NBA seasons. He carved a shooting role as a stretch-four, but he’s played a majority of his minutes at small forward over the past few seasons. As a power forward, Tolliver had a 34-point performance and a 21-rebound game late in the 2011 season with the Golden State Warriors.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers and Washington Wizards were in detailed discussions with Tolliver before his agreement with the Suns.

Chris Bosh received "strong" offers from multiple teams beyond the Houston Rockets, as the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers were also interested.

Bosh ultimately decided to re-sign with the Miami Heat on a five-year, $118 million deal.

"[There were] very enticing offers," Bosh said. "There was some surprising advances made in everything, but I ultimately decided to stay in Miami. I think it was the right choice. I benefit from it, the team will benefit from it, from here. My heart was in Miami. I wanted to be there and keep my family there and build relationships and really keep building on something special."
