Randolph To Knicks For Francis, Frye

Jun 29, 2007 12:22 AM

The Knicks and Trail Blazers reached agreement on a deal that swaps forward Zach Randolph and teammates Dan Dickau and Fred Jones, as well as the draft rights to Demetris Nichols for guard Steve Francis, Channing Frye and the Knicks' 2008 second round pick.

Francis has only two seasons left on his contract, worth just over $34 million, but possesses the option to become a free agent after next season. The Blazers, however, are planning to buy out Francis' contract and make him a free agent this summer, sources said.

Knicks & Blazers In "Advanced Discussions" On Randolph

Jun 28, 2007 7:38 PM

The Knicks and Trail Blazers were in "advanced discussions" on Thursday in a trade that would land Zach Randolph in New York.

The Knicks are said to be offering Channing Frye and Steve Francis.

The Blazers may prefer to bring back Malik Rose in the deal which would be possible in July.  The trade does not need to be completed on draft day because no picks are involved.

If Francis is the other player, another Blazer would need to be included in the trade to make it work under the salary cap.

Nets Pursue Jermaine O'Neal, Knicks Chase Zach Randolph

Jun 28, 2007 6:14 PM

As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo, multiple league sources are saying that the Nets have made an offer of Richard Jefferson, Nenad Krstic and Jason Collins to the Pacers for Jermaine O'Neal.  There are no picks involved so the deal can wait until July.

The Trail Blazers and Knicks are having "serious discussions" about a trade that would send Zach Randolph and Martell Webster to the Knicks for Steve Francis and Channing Frye.  The parties have exchanged variations on the deal but all combinations would result in Randolph heading to New York.  It is unclear whether there are picks involved so this too may be a deal that can be consummated after the draft.

The Washington Wizards are taking a serious look at Italian guard Marco Belinelli as their choice for the 16th pick.

Sean Williams, the controversial big man who was dismissed from his Boston College club, may be the Nets' selection at number 17.

Oden's Agent, Blazers Refute Report

Jun 28, 2007 2:53 PM

Greg Oden's agent and Portland's general manager refuted an ESPN report Wednesday that said Oden's camp had been informed the former Ohio State phenom will be the top pick in Thursday's NBA Draft.

"We haven't been told that,'' Mike Conley, Sr. told The Oregonian late Wednesday night. "(ESPN) can have their opinion, but the Blazers haven't told us anything.''

The Oregonian report said Blazers GM Kevin Pritchard was "emphatic" that the ESPN report was premature.

"Nobody has been promised or told anything. Nobody,'' Pritchard told the paper.

Report: Blazers Will Draft Oden With First Overall Pick

Jun 28, 2007 1:34 AM

According to a report on ESPN, the Trail Blazers will draft center Greg Oden with the first overall pick in Thursday's NBA draft.

The Trail Blazers ended the suspense one day before the draft, admitting to the network that they could not pass up on a franchise pivot - a position that has been the centerpiece of countless championship squads.

Portland reportedly will choose Oden over Texas forward Kevin Durant, who was a scoring machine in his only college season. Durant has been projected to be a combination of All-Stars like Kevin Garnett and Tracy McGrady.

If the lanky forward fulfills his potential, he certainly will change the direction of the SuperSonics, who almost certainly will take him with the second pick should Oden be taken first.

But Portland seems to be benefiting the most from this year's draft thanks to Oden, who will join Rookie of the Year Brandon Roy and last season's second overall pick LaMarcus Aldridge.

Nets Not Looking To Break Up Trio?

Jun 27, 2007 11:38 PM

Rod Thorn says it is not likely that he will trade any of the Nets' successful trio of Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson.

Thorn disputed the rumor that the Nets would deal Jefferson to Portland for Zach Randolph.

"We have not had any substantive talks with anyone regarding Zach Randolph at this time," he said. "I would not anticipate something like that transpiring."

The Nets expect Carter to opt out of his existing contract but believe that a new contract can be agreed upon to keep the all-star in New Jersey.

'No Conversations' Between Blazers And Nets On Randolph

Jun 25, 2007 2:27 PM

Rod Thorn reiterated that the Nets have had ?no conversations? with the Blazers regarding power forward Zach Randolph, who has a low post offense the Nets could sorely use (but he plays little defense).

Another league source said a deal for Randolph that could involve Richard Jefferson is not completely far-fetched, although he terms it as having a ?long, long shot? of getting done. ?I would say the Nets? interest is at a small percentage at best,? the source said.
