Webber Staying in Sacramento?

Jun 30, 2001 8:07 AM

Marc Berman of the New York Post (yes, a New York paper is reporting this) writes that there are signs that Chris Webber will re-sign with Sacramento. Berman cites sources close to Webber in addition to the fact that Webber has not hired an agent yet (he fired his agent during the season).

Still, that hasn't stopped the Knicks from collecting videotaped pleas from Samuel L. Jackson, Ananda Lewis, rapper Eve and, of course, Spike Lee. Why not borrow an idea from the Bulls and just take Webber to a Mets game?

So long, J-Will: Kings star sent to Grizzlies

With his flashy passing and dribbling and on-court flair, Jason Williams became an instant sensation as a rookie during the NBA's lockout-shortened 1999 season. Behind Williams and forward Chris Webber, who became his close friend, the Kings made a surprising run to the playoffs. But last season, Williams' play suffered. He shot inconsistently and played poor defense, and he complained about reduced playing time. THe Sacramento Bee reported that he and coach Rick Adelman also never were able to find a level of communication that both were comfortable with, said a source close to Williams.
"Jason and Adelman had hardly spoken at all," the source said. "Neither of them were going to change. It was like the immovable object and the brick wall hitting each other, and something was going to have to move. As it was, Jason was the piece that was moved."

Are Kings shopping Jason Williams?

Jun 25, 2001 11:02 AM

The Sacramento Bee's Marty McNeal reports that the Orlando Magic and the Indiana Pacers are interested in Jason Williams, said sources from both teams. The sources said they haven't yet spoken to the Kings about Williams, but likely will in the future. And, as yet, there has been no mention of what the Kings would receive in trade. There are, however, potential obstacles to a trade. The Kings owners, the Maloof family, don't want to trade Williams. He is the favorite player of family matriarch, Colleen Maloof, Joe and Gavin's mother. Also, the Kings' front office places a higher value on Williams than other league executives.
