May Had Offer From Cleveland

Jul 26, 2009 7:48 PM

Sean May, who joined the Kings last week, spoke with HoopsHype about his other suitors.

"I did have an offer from Cleveland. We were also taking to Portland, but no offer on the table from them," May told the web site.

May had injury and weight issues during his time in Charlotte, but feels as though he'll be a perfect fit in Sacramento.

"Just because I liked the fact that Sacramento is a young team, with a lot of young guys that are also talented. They have a new staff coming in," May added. "They've always had great fan support and the community there is great. It was just a good fit. The other teams I worked out for, sure I could have gone there. I just thought it was a better opportunity in Sacramento."

Hawes Apologizes For Missing Summer League

Jul 24, 2009 8:01 AM

Spencer Hawes has apologized to the Kings for not playing on their summer league team.

"The biggest thing was poor communication on my end," the center said on Thursday.

"I definitely could have handled it better. If I (ticked) people off, I apologize. I couldn't be there for the first few days because of another commitment, but I planned on coming after that. Then when it all blew up, I just would have been a distraction. I have to take responsibility for that. But the key is I've spoken with the coaches and Geoff Petrie and we put it behind us."

Kings Could Entertain Dealing Martin

Jul 20, 2009 4:31 PM

Kevin Martin is entering the third season of a five-year contract worth about $53 million.

The possibility of Sacramento trading Martin appears to be greater than ever, especially after the team's 17-win season and questions over his toughness after a lingering ankle injury.

"You definitely want (the Kings' rebuilding) to speed up," Martin told the Sacramento Bee. "You definitely don't want to be scoring 25 (points) for no reason. ... But I've still got time. I definitely want to be part of this. I'm just along for the ride."

Hawes Pulls Out Of Summer League

Jul 19, 2009 8:29 AM

Kings center Spencer Hawes disappointed the team when he pulled out of this month's summer league.

Hawes is the team's starting center and is entering his third NBA season, but the Sacramento Bee points out that the Kings won just 17 games last season.

He further upset the team by not calling, texting or e-mailing Kings president Geoff Petrie or first-year coach Paul Westphal.

Hawes informed team officials that he would skip the summer league through associates.

"The thing is, he should have communicated with us directly," Westphal said. "He understands that now. We move on."

There are strong indications that free-agent forward Sean May will sign a one-year deal with the Kings soon.

"There is strong interest on both sides, but nothing has been formalized," said his agent, Bob Myers. "Hopefully we'll know soon."

Diogu Unlikely To Re-Sign With Kings

Jul 15, 2009 7:15 AM

The Kings haven't had any conversations with free-agent forward Ike Diogu since they declined his qualifying offer of $3.9 million.

Diogu told the Sacramento Bee that "about 10 teams" have shown interest in him, including Atlanta, New Orleans, Boston, Dallas, Charlotte, Toronto, Denver and Washington.

Sacramento still has $6 million in cap space and are believed to be looking for a front court player.

"I haven't had any conversations with them (since the offer was declined)," agent Thaddeus Foucher said. "With the way they finished up, I thought we could've got something done really quick, but obviously they went in a different direction and that's their prerogative. (But) if you look at the team and what they need, I think he'd be a perfect fit."

Diogu appears disappointed that the Kings haven't shown any interest in bringing him back.

"I was disappointed (the Kings declined the offer), because I felt that I handled myself extremely well in a very tough situation last year," he said. "I felt I could've helped the team a lot earlier than I was given the chance to, and I felt like they knew what they were getting."
