Odom Jokingly Blames Loss On Media Jumping To Boston Game

Jan 29, 2011 10:19 AM

The Lakers lost 100-95 to the lowly Kings on Friday night and afterwards Lamar Odom blamed the loss on the media.

"Yeah, I'm blaming this on you guys," Odom said. "You guys are jumping to the Boston game."

Odom was joking, but the talk prior to Friday's game against Sacramento was dominated by questions about the Celtics, who the Lakers will play on Sunday.

The Lakers had put a gag order in place, saying no one was allowed to talk about the Celtics until after the Lakers finished off the Kings.

"Like I've said, teams they come in here and they are looking for a 'W'," Odom said. "You don't do the small things that you need to do defensively and take people out of the game. … They got comfortable.

"But I don't think anybody looked ahead. We got beat. We got our [butts] beat. … We got hit on the chin."

NBA Spells Out Hurdles For Potential Kings Move

Jan 15, 2011 7:13 PM

The Maloof family has been trying to secure a new arena in Sacramento for years, but they have been unsuccessfully.

Power Balance Pavilion, formerly named Arco Arena, is a 22-year-old facility.

Speculation has been constant on possible suitors for the Kings and the latest has the Maloofs in talks to move the franchise to Anaheim.

Sacramento radio station KFBK has reported that Henry Samueli, the owner of the NHL's Anaheim Ducks, met with the Maloofs and offered them a $100 million loan to facilitate the move to the Honda Center.

Any relocation would have to be approved by the NBA Board of Governors, which "also has the right to attach a relocation fee at that time," Tim Frank, senior vice president of NBA basketball communications, told the Orange Country Register.

To apply for relocation in time to play elsewhere next season, a team would have to notify commissioner David Stern in writing by March 1.

Kings Keeping Options Open On Relocation

Jan 11, 2011 7:52 AM

Kings co-owner Joe Maloof says the team is keeping their options open in regards to relocation, but nothing is imminent.

A report in the Orange County Register on Monday suggested that the Maloofs are entertaining offers to move the franchise to Anaheim.

"We are looking at all options to ensure the long term viability of this franchise," Maloof told the Sacramento Bee. "We're looking at all our options. Of course you're going to look at your options! We're businessmen. We've been at this for 10 years without any (arena) success."

He also acknowledged that he "receives calls every day" from representatives in other cities and insisted "nothing has changed."

The relocation rumors were revived last week amid reports that two private firms are negotiating to buy controlling interest in the Palms Casino and Resort in Las Vegas, leading to speculation that the Maloofs are in financial trouble.

"There is a sense of urgency because we've been at this for so long," Maloof said.

"We can't sugarcoat it. Everybody knows the region needs a new arena. When the NCAA (Tournament) is refusing to schedule events in Sac, you have to acknowledge that you need an entertainment venue. I can't give you a time table, but at some point, something has to get done. (Sacramento) mayor Kevin Johnson is working with four different groups, looking at four plans, and we're hoping something comes out of this. We want to be right here in Sacramento. We've always said that. It's been what? Eleven years? Rumors, rumors, rumors. I get tired of answering all these questions. Can't we just talk about how much better DeMarcus Cousins is getting?"

Jan 10, 2011 3:55 PM

The Kings have recalled rookie center Hassan Whiteside from the Reno Bighorns of the NBA Development League.

Sacramento assigned Whiteside to Reno on Nov. 29. In 14 games, he averaged 4.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.14 blocks and 10.5 minutes.

Whiteside won't join the Kings for the remaining games on their road trip as he'll remain in Sacramento to work out.

He will work out with assistant Pete Carril.

Evans Credits Improved Diet For Increased Quickness

Jan 7, 2011 4:24 PM

Tyreke Evans says an improved diet is the reason for his increased quickness.

He admitted his diet had become heavy on fast food, but that a recent visit from his mother and grandmother for the holidays helped get him back on track.

"I lost a little bit of weight," Evans said. "I've been eating right since my mom's been in town. So I've been getting the speed, and the rhythm I had coming off the last game was pretty good."

Evans has had a sore left foot because of plantar fasciitis.

"We know Tyreke hasn't been himself yet this year," Paul Westphal said. "And if he's able to start being quicker, then we're going to be able to see how he can really be, and that not only helps him, it helps us a lot."

Dalembert Vents Over Role, Trade Being Discussed

Jan 6, 2011 8:33 AM

Samuel Dalembert is upset over his recently diminished role with the Kings.

"They have to let me know which direction they want to go," Dalembert said. "They know what I do best. I block shots, rebound, get us in the fast break. Am I going to play the next five years in a place that is a contender, or am I going to be here, helping this team get better? It's up to them. But I am not going to lie. This is very frustrating."

Sacramento has been committed to rookie center DeMarcus Cousins lately and trade discussions involving Dalembert and his $12.2 million expiring contract are ongoing.

"It's been stops and starts for him," coach Paul Westphal said, "and right now his role is probably a little less than I thought it would be."

Dalembert's agent, Marc Cornstein, is in Sacramento seeking clarification on his client's role.

"I talked to Geoff (Petrie)," Cornstein said, "and we don't want to hit the panic button. All the reasons we were so excited for him to come here are still there. We're just trying to find a solution. It's really not his choice. That (a potential trade) is for the team to decide. We have to see how things progress and play out."
