Ron Harper Jr. Leaving Rutgers For 2022 NBA Draft

Mar 23, 2022 3:27 PM

Ron Harper Jr. is declaring for the 2022 NBA draft, leaving Rutgers after his senior season.

Harper is a projected second round pick.

Harper says he sees himself evolving into a 3-and-D-style role player at the NBA level in the Robert Covington mold.

"The NBA is more spaced-out basketball; there are different defensive rules. I had to take a lot of contested 3-pointers this year. Those will be open ones in the NBA. The biggest thing NBA teams will see is I'm more athletic than a lot of people realize. I'm going to get my body in the best shape possible to help with that, including improving my eating habits."

March Madness First Four Odds & Picks for Wednesday Games

Mar 31, 2022 4:32 PM

The wait is almost over. The NCAA Tournament tips off in less than 24 hours to set the tone for a glorious three weeks of March Madness. In the meantime, we’ve got some final college basketball betting business to finish first with the remaining First Four games in Dayton.

No. 16-seed Wright State is a -3 favorite over No. 16 Bryant at DraftKings Sportsbook, with the winner taking on No. 1 Arizona Friday in San Diego. We’ve also got No. 11 Notre Dame as a slight -1 favorite over Rutgers for the final play-in game at UD Arena. The winner of that game will take on No. 6 Alabama in the West region.

Wednesday’s College Basketball Betting Lines To Back

Bryant +3 over Wright State

This is the first NCAA Tournament appearance ever for Bryant, and we like the Bulldogs’ chances in the opener. They’ve won 16 of their last 17 games and crushed Wagner, 70-43, in the Northeast Conference Tournament title game. The Bulldogs also have the nation’s leading scorer in Peter Kiss. The senior guard averages 25.1 points a night and we love a go-to guy in March when it’s crunch time. Wright State is a really poor defensive team that will struggle to keep up on the perimeter at times. This is a good opening-round matchup for the Bulldogs and we expect a strong showing. We’re on Bryant +3.

Rutgers +1 over Notre Dame

There’s nothing flashy about this Rutgers team. The Scarlet Knights just keep finding a way to make things interesting. They ripped off a stretch of four straight wins over ranked opponents last month, taking down Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Illinois. They also finished the season with wins over Indiana and Penn State before bowing out in the Big Ten Tournament to eventual-champion Iowa. This is their type of game in Dayton, against an Irish team that prefers a faster pace. We like the Knights’ chances to make this one ugly and get it done. We’re on Rutgers +1.
