Don Chaney doesn't need an agent or a third party to let his interest be known. He plans on picking up the phone today, and telling Cavaliers general manager Jim Paxson that he wants to be the team's next head coach. Whether Chaney, a New York assistant who has nine years experience as an NBA head coach, emerges as a serious candidate remains to be seen. But there don't figure to be too many other applicants who can put ``NBA Coach of the Year'' on their resumes. Other candidates who might be in the mix are Lakers assistant Jim Cleamons, Orlando assistant Johnny Davis and Mike Dunleavy, who was fired as Portland's head coach last night.
