Ball in hand and coach Byron Scott in front of him, Nets rookie Richard Jefferson got a taste of NBA 101 before practice broke Wednesday.

Pointing to spots on the floor and occasionally physically moving him, Scott reviewed X's and O's with his top draft choice, where Jefferson needs to be in certain offensive situations and how he should react. It's the part of the professional game that's come the hardest for a 6-foot-7 player on whom the Nets will rely coming off the bench and even in a small, fast frontcourt with Kenyon Martin and Keith Van Horn.

"This is the highest level of basketball on the planet, so everything has to be more exact, everything has to be more specific," Jefferson said after the lesson. "I understand the offense, I know where to go, but I'm not sure of the reads."
