Quick.  Name the only head coach in all the four major sports who has the same job he had in 1988.  If you said "Jerry Sloan" right off the top you are not the weakest link but the tougher question is how has he been able to do it without winning a championship?  In today's Deseret News there's an interesting article on Sloan the Survivor.

It seems like the real key to survival is walking a very fine line between letting your stars have their say and maintaining team discipline. Both John Stockton and Karl Malone feel that Sloan's ability to do both has kept him in Utah for so long despite the fact that they admit a star can actually run off a coach who tries to assert his authority too much.  "In this league," Stockton said of stars who essentially hand pink slips to their own bosses, "I think it happens."
