It was cold and snowing 10 years ago tonight. A crowd of only 10,487 battled the hostile weather to get to the Coliseum.

The fans who made the long drive to Richfield were rewarded when they saw one of the Cavaliers' best performances.

The Cavs destroyed the Miami Heat, 148-80, that night of Dec. 17, 1991. The 68-point winning margin is still the NBA record.

"That was incredible," said Cavs coach Lenny Wilkens after the game. "It was a great display of basketball. They shot the ball, they rebounded and they passed. It doesn't happen very often, but every once in a while it comes together like this."

The Cavs had a comparatively modest 73-53 lead at halftime. The Coliseum roof almost collapsed on the Heat in the third period, when the Cavs went on a 33-14 spree to lead, 106-67. Cleveland outscored Miami, 75-27, in the second half.

Miami coach Kevin Loughery ran up the white flag with the Cavs leading, 85-55, early in the third, sending in obscure players Keith Askins, Milos Babic and Alan Ogg.

The merciless crowd loved the 42-13 cascade by the Cavs' reserves in the fourth quarter, shouting, "Three, three," every time long shooters such as Steve Kerr, Henry James and Danny Ferry got the ball.
