It was the day after the Cleveland Cavaliers finished with another one of those "moral victories" that drive coach John Lucas up a wall.

With Wednesday's loss to New Jersey still fresh in his memory, Lucas began yesterday's practice with a 30-minute chat. He was the featured speaker and the only one talking.

"I expect more from our team," Lucas said. "We've got to start beating teams that are over .500 and we have to start beating quality teams at home. To end up losing by one or two points like we have is unacceptable."

The close losses have recently become common. Prior to Wednesday's two-point loss to New Jersey, the Cavs lost by six at home to Indiana and six to Boston on the road. And there was also a disappointing three-point defeat at home to Philadelphia on Dec. 15. It was another game that the Cavs let slip away.

Lucas especially wants the Cavs to become stronger at home. The Cavs were 20-21 at Gund Arena last year.

"We have to stop the bleeding at home," Lucas said.

He said the Cavs could use a little leadership from their veterans. He used Lakers' vets Brian Shaw, Robert Horry and Rick Fox as examples.

"They seemed to get it done with their vets and I expect our veterans to come up and show some leadership," Lucas said.
