Michael Hunt of the Milwauke Journal Sentinel reports now that MIchael Jordan has passed through as a player on the Washington Wizards, it is a good time to reflect on what could have been.  Before Jordan approached the Hornets then the Wizards for a place in management he approached Milwaukee Bucks owner Herb Kohl.  Kohl had just hired a first-rate general manager in Ernie Grunfeld, writes Hunt, so there was no place for Jordan to have a controlling position within management, and Kohl was not about to surrender a stake of the franchise as Abe Pollin has done in Washington.

But to be honest neither party envisioned Jordan returning to the hardcourt at the time.

"When we talked to him, he was definitely in retirement," Karl said. "Why he's changed and why he's gone back to playing, I don't think anyone could have predicted those things happening."

Karl believes that the reason Jordan returned to the NBA as a player was to cover for his failings in management, and that if he ended up in Milwaukee he would probably still be up stairs.

"If he had come to Milwaukee and been successful, maybe he wouldn't have wanted to come back (as a player)," Karl said. "His competition and anger of not being successful as a general manager/owner has driven him to be more successful. He went to a place where he knew he could be successful, and that's on the court."
