Oakland, Calif.

- The stage was set for the Cavaliers to break out of their slump last night. They were in prime position.

It was a game against the slumping Golden State Warriors. The same team the Cavs defeated by 15 two weeks ago at Gund Arena. Surely this game was going to provide a desperately needed win.

It wasn't even close.

Fueled by major runs in the second and third quarters, the Warriors avenged the earlier loss by blowing out the Cavs, 117-88, at the Arena in Oakland.

The Cavs gave up a season-high in points and it was their third-largest margin of defeat this season. Five Warriors scored in double figures, led by Larry Hughes with 20 points.

Antawn Jamison followed with 18. Chris Mihm led the Cavs with 20 points. Bryant Stith, Ricky Davis and Andre Miller had 10 points each.

The victory snapped the Warriors' seven-game losing streak.

The Cavs (13-26) have lost eight straight and 11 of their last 13. The six-game West Coast trip ends tomorrow against the Los Angeles Clippers.

This was the 13th of the Cavs' 23 sets of back-to-back games. The Cavs are 5-8 the first night and 3-10 the following game.

Foul trouble rained on the Cavs early in the third quarter. Jumaine Jones received three fouls within two minutes, giving him a total of five. He went to the bench frustrated and threw his head band onto the court, earning a technical. Danny Fortson hit the technical free throw and Hughes split a pair to give the Warriors a 60-45 lead with 9:15 left in the period.

The fouls continued to mount and the Warriors continued to pad their lead. Fortson scored inside and was fouled. His free throw extended the lead to 72-51 with 6:12 left. The Cavs were running out of time and they were on the verge of running out of players. With less than six minutes left, Jones, Mihm and Brian Skinner all had five fouls and Miller had four. Miller got his fifth foul with three minutes left in the third quarter.

Lamond Murray, who scored a career-high 40 points against the Warriors on Jan. 2, had five points in the first three quarters.

By the end of the third quarter, the Warriors were coasting with an 84-67 lead.

The Cavs got into trouble early. After Murray split a pair of free throws to give the Cavs a 13-12 lead with 5:56 left in the first quarter, Erick Dampier dropped in a one-handed shot that started a 10-0 run, capped by Jamison's basket, for a 22-13 Golden State lead.

Jamison, who scored 11 in the first quarter, continued to hurt the Cavs. He added five consecutive points as the Warriors took a 27-17 lead. Mihm scored his eighth point of the quarter on a putback, and former Cav Bob Sura closed out the quarter with two free throws for a 29-19 Warriors lead.

Miller had three fouls in the first quarter. And the Cavs were outshot from the field, 43.5 percent to 36.4 percent.

Ricky Davis came off the bench and sparked the Cavs with consecutive buckets. Zydrunas Ilgauskas followed with a short jumper and Miller converted a three-point play to bring the Cavaliers within 33-28 with 8:17 left in the half.

The Warriors fought back behind a 6-2 run for a 39-30 lead. Ilgauskas hit a free throw for an eight-point deficit but this is where the Cavs broke down.

The Warriors turned three straight turnovers into six points for a 45-31 lead. Moments later, Jason Richardson provided the first-half highlight with a putback slam for a commanding 15-point lead. And just when it seemed that the Warriors were slowing down, Jamison nailed a jumper for a 52-34 lead with 2 minutes left.

The Warriors led, 54-39, at the half.
