Thursday afternoon, The Salt Lake Tribune learned the Jazz were actively working to make a deal before the NBA's Feb. 21 trade deadline.

Thursday night at Arco Arena, the Jazz showed why some kind a shake-up seems necessary.

They did not execute.

They did not defend.

They did not seem too interested in even trying.

Instead, Utah stood by almost helplessly and suffered its worst loss of the season -- a 113-80 embarrassment against Sacramento.

Chris Webber scored 24 points, Peja Stojakovic added 21 and Bobby Jackson finished with 18 as the Kings rolled to their 17th consecutive home victory by outclassing the Jazz, who dropped to 1-9 against the top five teams in the Western Conference.

Karl Malone led Utah with 14 points, but the Jazz lost for the fourth time in five games by shooting 39 percent, committing 16 turnovers and failing to resist when the Kings took charge during a 28-14 second quarter.

"We didn't play aggressively enough against this team," John Starks said.

"We didn't compete much tonight," coach Jerry Sloan agreed.

In an attempt to jump-start the Jazz, Sloan shook up his starting lineup. He replaced youngsters Andrei Kirilenko and DeShawn Stevenson with Bryon Russell and Starks.

It didn't work.
