Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports: While league executives seem fixated these days on the workouts of draft prospects, several proven NBA players have begun to work on their games.

Rookie of the Year Pau Gasol is ready to get back in the gym some thousands of miles away in Spain. In August, the 7-footer is expected to represent Spain during the World Basketball Championship at Indianapolis.

Gasol, after a month of relaxing and "hanging out with friends," has issued a summons for Griz strength and conditioning coach Robert Hackett to supervise him for two weeks.

Hackett leaves Friday for Spain and strict workout sessions.

But don't expect Gasol to return to the U.S. looking noticeably bigger.

"It's not whether he can suddenly bench-press 300 pounds. That's not going to translate to what he has to do on the court," Hackett said. "We want to get his legs stronger and his hip joints stronger. He's going to get (bigger) as he gets older."
