Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald reports that Sonics point guard Kenny Anderson could be had at a bargain price. Anderson was an integral part of the Boston Celtics? run to the Eastern Conference Finals last season. The Celtics this season are in desperate need of a point guard. It should be a perfect match, right?

Wrong. The Celtics have shown no interest in the former all-star.

Seattle acquired Anderson along with Vitaly Potapenko and Joseph Forte from Boston in return for Vin Baker and Shammond Williams in July. Anderson has had trouble adjusting to playing a backup role behind Gary Payton.

According to a source close to the situation, Seattle would part with Anderson and has discussed paying $6 million of his $9.185 million salary as a buyout. (They could not pay that much in a trade.)

That means, Anderson would have to find a club willing to pay the rest. That does not appear to be likely. If he wanted to get out of Seattle bad enough, he could accept the buyout and play for another team for the $1 million veterans? minimum. Such a scenario would result in a $2 million loss for Anderson, but the opportunity to play in a better situation.

Anderson has been getting limited minutes with the Sonics and has been bothered by back and shoulder problems. The coaches there are said to be disappointed with his progress in picking up the offense.
