Six months after he was fired as coach of the Hawks, Lon Kruger appears to have landed on his feet --- he'll be hired by the New York Knicks as an assistant, according to two people associated with the Hawks and the New York Knicks.

Kruger would neither confirm nor deny it, and Knicks coach Don Chaney was unavailable for comment Tuesday. But when asked if he would be house-hunting in the New York area soon, Kruger said, "Maybe."

Kruger, 50, would be the final piece to a Knicks coaching staff that includes Brendan Malone, Mike Malone and Herb Williams.
