Two young draft prospects sensed something was wrong at the Berto Center on Sunday, and the arrival of Bulls team orthopedic surgeon Michael Lewis did nothing to dispel that perception.

Jarvis Hayes and James Lang worked out for the Bulls in anticipation of Thursday's NBA draft, but both prospects knew the day wasn't just about them.

Lewis' presence was a stark reminder that the Bulls' No. 2 pick from last year, Jay Williams, has more pressing issues than basketball. Williams, 21, and his family spent Sunday resting in Illinois Masonic Hospital, according to a source, but that peace isn't likely to last long.

Williams, who crashed his motorcycle Thursday and underwent surgery on his pelvis, faces the prospect of several more procedures, including reconstructive surgery on his left knee, sources said. There is fear that permanent nerve damage in Williams' leg will prevent him from playing in the NBA again.

"You could look into their eyes and see it,'' Hayes said of the Bulls' concern about Williams.
