Golden State Warriors free agent point guard Gilbert Arenas, the principle player the Washington Wizards have targeted to acquire this offseason, met with President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld and Coach Eddie Jordan tonight in Washington and could come to terms on a multiyear contract as soon as Thursday, a source close to the negotiations said.

Grunfeld and Jordan left the Wizards' summer league team in Boston today to meet with Arenas, who traveled from California for the meeting.

"He is very interested," said Arenas's agent, Dan Fegan. "The . . . attractive thing is the system that Eddie Jordan runs. It's a free-flowing system that could really show Gilbert's strengths."

Grunfeld, Jordan and assistant coach Phil Hubbard, who coached Arenas while an assistant at Golden State, met with Arenas in Los Angeles on Monday.

"Gilbert really had a great meeting with them," Fegan said.

Grunfeld and Jordan were unavailable to comment on the Arenas negotiations.
