They lost Andre Miller.

But they have a shot at Brad Miller.

So says Larry Miller.

Confused?

Don't be. It's all part of the game called NBA Free Agency, and it took another twist Friday in Salt Lake City, where Jazz officials met with Brad Miller and hoped to persuade him that Utah is the right place to continue his career.

Larry Miller called it a "great meeting," adding the Jazz were "intent on making Brad an offer," perhaps as soon as today.

Brad Miller, 27, earned $5.3 million last season. The 6-foot-11, 244-pound center could command a long-term deal worth $8 million to $10 million per year.

"I was very impressed with the way he thinks things through," Larry Miller said, "and that he has the self-confidence to come here without his agent."

Asked if the Jazz were being used to drive up Brad Miller's value in his negotiations with Indiana, Denver and possibly Miami, the Jazz owner shook his head.

"I questioned going in if we were just being used as a pawn," Larry Miller said. "But I think he's taking a serious look at his alternatives, including the one he will have here."

From Chicago, Brad Miller's agent claimed his client's meeting with the Jazz "went great."

"He was very impressed with coach [Jerry] Sloan, Larry Miller and Kevin [O'Connor]," Mark Bartelstein said. "It's a beautiful city and Brad is an outdoors type of guy. So he really enjoyed it."

Asked if Brad Miller was leaning one way or the other in his search for a new contract, Bartelstein said, "It's too early to tell. There's still so much out there. But we're talking and things are moving along. . . . Right now, the process is playing itself out."
