The Nuggets made their move to acquire an NBA all-star Monday by offering free-agent center Brad Miller a contract in the six-year, $49 million range, according to sources close to the team.

Miller's decision appears to boil down to taking less money from Denver to come to a city he has spoken of fondly in the past, or signing with the Utah Jazz, which has offered a six-year contract in the $55 million range.

Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe said he spent more than an hour Monday talking to Miller's agent, Mark Bartelstein.

"Guys in the NBA do make a lot of dollars. It takes a special guy to take a little less to play in a place where he wants to play," Vandeweghe said. "(Nuggets signee) Andre Miller is one of those guys, and I believe Brad is one of those guys, too."
