The Kings have been on the sidelines during the recent free-agent period, but that doesn't mean they've been idle.
Geoff Petrie, the Kings' president of basketball operations, said Tuesday night he has been involved in trade talks, but, as usual, would not elaborate.

"We have been having a few more interesting discussions in the past couple of days," Petrie said. "Where and if they might lead to anything, I can't tell you."

Word around the league Tuesday was that the Kings were linked to a sign-and-trade possibility involving 27-year-old free-agent center Brad Miller, formerly of the Indiana Pacers. Miller reportedly has received six-year offers of $49 million to $53 million from the Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz, respectively. And those are offers that reportedly have been increased by both teams.

Indiana also is on the record as desiring to re-sign Miller, who averaged 13.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists last season, but is attempting to do so without becoming a luxury-tax team next season. Theoretically, Indiana would lose Miller to Denver or Utah and receive nothing in return if he leaves as a free agent.

Hence, the concept of Indiana putting together a sign-and-trade deal in which the team could receive players such as Scot Pollard and Hedo Turkoglu, who are slated to make approximately $5.3 million and $2 million, respectively, next season.
