The Celtics placed forward Tom Gugliotta on the injured list with a very mild right ankle sprain on Wednesday and activated rookie Justin Reed.

"I was sitting on the bench in the Clipper game when we went small, and we were one foul away from no more smalls," said Rivers. "I was thinking Justin may have helped us in that game, and we didn't have him (activated). That was scary for me."

Gugliotta is taking it well for now.

"No one wants to be on (the injured list)," he said. "You want to be able to play. Even if you are a little banged up, you want to fight through it and play. It's a long season. You never know. You've just got to be ready."
