The Knicks are still without a coach and still without a serious candidate, but that doesn't seem to be bothering Isiah Thomas.

"I would say that we probably won't name a coach before the draft," Thomas said Thursday in an interview outside Moody Bible Institute, where the N.B.A. is holding a camp for draft prospects. The draft will be held June 28.

The uncertainty surrounding Jackson and Brown is one factor in the Knicks' delay. The other is the N.B.A.'s labor negotiations. Many team executives believe there will be a lockout July 1, which would shut down all league business.

"There's no rushing to make any decision now," Thomas said. "You don't know what labor agreement you're going to be working under. There could possibly be a lockout. So time is on our side."
