League sources confirmed to Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald that the Celtics are very actively seeking a quality veteran by attempting to deal away their No. 7 overall pick and a young player or two.

The Celtics have placed calls regarding Shawn Marion, Rashard Lewis, Richard Jefferson, Allen Iverson and Kevin Garnett, and while it?s entirely possible none of the discussions will produce a trade, it seems clear that Danny Ainge is acting on the need for experience.

?I don?t know,? Ainge said in regards to dealing away his first-round pick. ?There?s a chance. We?re still having conversations. There are some deals that I would like to do for the pick, but I have no idea if we can find a partner and do what we want to do. We need good players. I keep saying I?m not interested in run-of-the-mill veterans. I?m looking for talent.

?So if there?s an All-Star veteran to be had for a couple of young guys or a draft pick and one of the young guys, I would do that. But we?re trying to develop great players.?
