Joe Crawford has officiated more than 2,000 NBA regular-season games. Despite meeting with commissioner David Stern and three other league executives yesterday in New York, he still does not know whether he will ever officiate another one.

Crawford, suspended indefinitely by Stern on April 17 after a confrontation 2 days earlier with San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan, was summoned to the league to a meeting that included Joel Litvin, president, league and basketball operations; Stu Jackson, executive vice president, basketball operations, and Ronnie Nunn, director of officials.

Crawford was suspended after ejecting Duncan on two technical fouls in the third quarter of what became a 91-86 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. The second technical came as Duncan was laughing on the bench, creating just the second ejection of his career.

"He looked at me and said 'Do you want to fight? Do you want to fight?' " Duncan said at the time. "If he wants to fight, we can fight. I don't have any problem with him, but we can do it if he wants to. I have no reason why in the middle of a game he would yell at me 'Do you want to fight?' "
