The Cavaliers will likely attempt to sign guard Delonte West to a contract extension this summer, according to the News-Herald.

West's contract runs through the 2010-11 season and Cleveland could keep him while packaging Daniel Gibson in a deal to acquire a legitimate shooting guard.

RealGM Note: Because West's contract for 10-11 is non-guaranteed and was signed to a three-year deal, he is actually not eligible for an extension. If Cleveland waives West, then they will have a $500,000 cap hit for him.  If they re-sign him, then the new contract would be on top of the $500,000 that they would already owe him.

Since West is on an affordable contract for 10-11, another team would likely claim him on waivers, which makes a multi-year deal for West an unlikely scenario.
