President Barack Obama praised the Phoenix Suns at the start of a Cinco de Mayo celebration in the Rose Garden of the White House on Wednesday.

"I know that a lot of you would rather be watching tonight's game -- the Spurs against 'Los Suns' from Phoenix," said the president.

The Suns wore 'Los Suns' on their jerseys to honor the Latino community, diversity and the state of Arizona.

The team also appears to be sending a message of opposition to Arizona's controversial new immigration law, which the Obama Administration believes is misguided.
