Chauncey Billups was offered a below-market salary of $2 million per season by the Cleveland Cavaliers to serve as President of Basketball Operations.

Billups was initially offered just $1.5 million.

According to sources, executives in that role are paid at least $4 million per season.

While the contract offer wasn't the only reason why Billups decided to reject the offer, it played a part. Billups also interviewed this offseason for the Atlanta Hawks' job.

The Cavaliers are known around the NBA for not paying as much to front office leadership as other teams despite routinely having a high payroll for player salaries.

David Griffin made under $2 million per season as GM of the Cavaliers.
