James Harden and the Houston Rockets have reached an agreement on the biggest contract extension in NBA history worth $228 million. The deal runs through 22-23

Harden is eligible for the Designated Veteran Player Extension, which can pay up to 35 percent of the salary cap.

Harden signed a four-year, $118 million extension with the Rockets last offseason, but he's eligible for one this season after he and Russell Westbrook were grandfathered into the new collective bargaining agreement.

Harden finished the 16-17 NBA season as the MVP runner-up.

"Houston is home for me," Harden said in a statement released by the Rockets. "[Owner Leslie Alexander] has shown he is fully committed to winning and my teammates and I are going to keep putting in the work to get better and compete for the title."
