John Wall held a press conference on Friday announcing his $170 million contract extension with the Washington Wizards.

“I’m happy here,” Wall said to the gathering. “I’m happy to see all y’all amazing people supporting me for the next six years. This is the team I want to be with for the rest of my career, so hopefully we can get that done.”

Wall’s agent and management team negotiated into the deal a trade kicker, which essentially works as a form of a no-trade clause because few teams likely will have the cap space to absorb his escalated salary beginning in 2019.

“I think his bond with this community is deep,” said Ted Leonsis. “My expectation is he will spend his career here, and when his career ends, he’ll be closely associated with this organization. He really wants his jersey retired. He really wants to play a role in the history of the organization, and he knows the way you really do that is to bring a championship to the franchise and the community.”
