Maverick Carter said LeBron James will be most focused on winning when he becomes a free agent in 2018. James has been strongly linked to the Los Angeles Lakers as he's been living in the area in the offseason and the franchise has also been clearing cap space to potentially sign two max free agents.

“These days, it doesn’t matter anymore. The Lakers and the Knicks have been bad — the Knicks for a very long time, the Lakers since Kobe aged out of being one of the best players in the league,” Carter said while on the Rich Eisen show. “You can be known or be a star from anywhere — anywhere in the world ... When you win as an athlete, that matters the most.”

When James was a free agent in 2010, he chose to sign with the Miami Heat over a bigger market such as the Knicks which was considered a better move for pursuing a title.
