The Los Angeles Lakers re-engaged the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday in regard to trading for Kawhi Leonard.

The Lakers are hoping to acquire Leonard before the start of free agency to improve their odds of also landing LeBron James.

While the Spurs have wanted to repair their relationship with Leonard, an overwhelming offer from the Lakers could convince them to trade him to their franchise.

The Lakers are attempting to use deals involving Paul George and Kyrie Irving as proportional models for acquiring Leonard.

The Lakers hoped to sign James and George in free agency, which would give them more leverage in Leonard trade talks, or simply for the ability to wait until next year to sign Leonard.
