Steve Mills released a statement to reassure disappointed New York Knicks fans that the team remain optimistic in their ability to build a title-contending side.

"While we understand that some Knicks fans could be disappointed with tonight's news, we continue to be upbeat and confident in our plans to rebuild the Knicks to compete for championships in the future, through both the draft and targeted free agents," said Mills.

The Knicks had been linked with a move for Kevin Durant after clearing enough cap space to land two max free agents - though ESPN reported that James Dolan was not prepared to offer Durant a max contract due to his Achilles injury.

The Knicks signed Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Reggie Bullock and Taj Gibson in the first day of free agency.
