Bill Russell accepted his Basketball Hall of Fame ring in a private ceremony on Friday.

The 85-year-old Russell didn't attend his induction ceremony in 1975, saying that he felt he didn't deserve to be the first black person inducted.

"I felt others before me should have that honor," said Russell, mentioning Chuck Cooper. Cooper was also inducted this year.

The ceremony was attended by former NBA players Bill Walton and Alonzo Mourning.
