The Cleveland Cavaliers and John Beilein agreed to part ways on Tuesday, ending a short and fraught tenure for the longtime college head coach in the NBA.

Beilein agreed to walk away from more than $12 million guaranteed on his four-year contract.

The success Beilein found in a very different college game with unpaid players at Michigan and West Virginia didn't translate to the NBA.

Beilein is said to have shown no consistency in relating to players or in building lasting relationships with them.

“He was a dictator — not a coach suited for today’s NBA,” one source said.
