The Miami Heat pivoted to a trade for Trevor Ariza after they were unable to reach agreement on a deal for Rudy Gay or P.J. Tucker.

The San Antonio Spurs are seeking more for Gay than the Heat were willing to give up. Some within the Heat preferred trading for Gay over Ariza. Gay is on a $14.5 million expiring contract.

Trade talks between the Heat and Spurs centered on LaMarcus Aldridge went nowhere.
