The Boston Celtics are reportedly looking to get out of the luxury tax, as the team floats around a .500 record. The Chicago Bulls are looking for guard depth, after losing Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso to long-term injuries. That led to conversations between the two on a deal of Dennis Schroder for Troy Brown Jr. and a second-round pick.

Boston is currently $2.7 million over the tax line, but that factors in some bonus money for Jaylen Brown that he may not earn this season. Swapping Schroder for Brown would save Boston about $700,000 and may leave them one small salary-clearing trade away from dodging the tax.

Chicago has been looking for another guard since Ball went on the shelf following knee surgery. That need was heightened when Caruso fractured his wrist following a flagrant foul from Grayson Allen of the Milwaukee Bucks.
