The Philadelphia 76ers offered Ish Smith, Nik Stauskas and a protected first round pick to the Atlanta Hawks for Dennis Schroder at the trade deadline.

The Hawks held up the trade due to the uncertainty of re-signing Smith in the offseason.

Smith figures to receive significant interest in free agency.

The Atlanta Hawks spent 90 percent of practice time to defense and they now rank second in the NBA in points allowed per possession.

The Hawks have been ranked first in the NBA during 2016 by a wide margin.

Opposing teams figured out how to slow down the Hawks' offense, but they hope it can be as good as it was during the 14-15 regular season again.

"Our offense hasn't been there, so our defense has had to be better," Kyle Korver said. "There has been growth in the team because of that realization. And now we're starting to figure some things out offensively. I think we peaked too early last year. Hopefully this year, our best basketball is ahead of us."

The Hawks rank second in the NBA in forcing turnovers.

"The turnover thing is weird for me," Mike Budenholzer says. "I didn't dream for 20 years about coaching a team that would create turnovers."

The Hawks swarm without gambling or fouling.

The Utah Jazz explored trade talks at the deadline for both Jeff Teague and Jrue Holiday.

But the talks went nowhere as the asking price of the Atlanta Hawks and New Orleans Pelicans were considered too high for their veteran point guards.

The Jazz remain confident in Dante Exum, who has missed the entire 15-16 season with a torn ACL.

The Jazz could explore acquiring a veteran point guard again in June or July.

Utah ultimately traded for Shelvin Mack at the deadline.

Kevin Martin has agreed upon a contract buyout agreement with the Minnesota Timberwolves before the deadline to make him playoff-eligible.

Martin will be pursued by multiple teams with the San Antonio Spurs already considered a strong contender.

The Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets will also pursue Martin.

Martin and his agent had to negotiate a complicated settlement of the player option on Martin's contract that was scheduled to pay him $7.4 million next season.

Martin averaged 20 points per game as recently as last season.

Kris Humphries has cleared waivers and will sign with the Atlanta Hawks.

Humphries could even be in uniform as early as Tuesday's game against the Golden State Warriors.

Humphries was waived last week by the Phoenix Suns.
