Celtics Have Inquired On Al Horford, Jeff Teague

Jan 30, 2016 4:50 PM

The Boston Celtics have inquired about the availability of Al Horford and Jeff Teague.

The Celtics have a considerable number of trade assets to facilitate a trade.

"Atlanta, I've been told, is ready to turn the page, to give the team to Dennis Schroeder, their young point guard, who is ready to step up and be a starter," Mannix said. "Teague is available because Teague has some value. He has another year left on his contract, about $8 million per year, and teams across the league are looking to get him.

"I've heard that Boston's inquired about several players with Atlanta, Teague and Al Horford. Teague might seem like a weird fit with this team because they already have point guards but he is an asset, he's someone the Celtics could be interested in. Horford, a little more difficult. It would be a gamble going after Al Horford because Al Horford is in the last year of his deal and he's going to command a salary north of $20 million next year. But as we know and as I just said, Danny Ainge is a gambling GM. He could make a move like that too."

Jan 24, 2016 3:41 PM

Avery Bradley is unhappy with the four-year, $32 million contract he signed in 2014 with the Boston Celtics.

Bradley's deal was viewed as a good one for him when it was signed, but he has since seen players like Khris Middleton and Tristan Thompson get lucrative new deals.

Bradley has changed agents from Mitchell Butler to Rob Pelinka.

Celtics Considering Playing Game At Fenway Park

Jan 4, 2016 12:33 PM

The Boston Celtics have had cursory conversations about playing an outdoor NBA game at Fenway Park.

"I've gotten into it. I really like the idea," Celtics' president Rich Gotham said. "I think if you can find a way to sort of differentiate the game and make it fun for fans, that's a great thing. And the Winter Classic certainly does that.

"Even when Fenway stages certain events, like football games, it just makes it more special for people involved and the fans. I think if you can do it, great. At the same time, my job requires me to be pragmatic, so you'd need to look at the hurdles."

The biggest obstacles are the weather and scheduling, Gotham said. The Celtics can't play basketball outside during the winter. The best times to play outside are late October or early April though those dates could conflict with the Red Sox.

The Phoenix Suns played preseason outdoor games from 2008 to 2010 in a tennis stadium in Palm Springs.

Danny Ainge: We Value Everything To A Certain Point

Jan 3, 2016 12:19 AM

Danny Ainge continues to have interest in making a trade to cash in his excess of future draft picks.

The Boston Celtics are heavy with big men.

“We put ourselves in a position where we’re still in it and we’re still fighting for our lives,” Ainge said. “I’ve enjoyed watching our team play. With the exception of a few games, it’s impossible to go through an 82-game schedule without some stinkers. I like the energy the guys bring. I’m excited about these guys the second half of the year.”

Ainge was asked if the Celtics need additions.

“I think that it’s a challenge. This team is in some ways a real challenge to coach. For some guys, it’s a challenge in that we have a lot of depth. That’s good and bad in some ways. We’ve been fortunate that we haven’t had a lot of injuries, but do we need change? No. Can we get better? Sure.

“I guess that’s why I answer phone calls. But there’s not anything that I feel like I have to do.”

The Celtics will own as many as four first round picks in this year's draft.

“We have certain value on everything, on our players, on our draft picks, cap space,” Ainge said. “We value everything to a certain point. There’s certain things you won’t do unless you get the right assets in return.”
