Kevin Durant Likely To Take One-Plus-One Deal With Warriors Worth Less In 18-19

Jun 30, 2018 3:10 PM

Kevin Durant is likely to take a one-plus-one contract in free agency with the Golden State Warriors.

Durant maintains flexibility by taking a shorter contract, but it will have a smaller starting salary of $30 million instead of $35.4 million.

By taking less money in the short-term, the Warriors will be more likely to use their mid-level exception.

The salary cap is expected to increase in 2019 and the Warriors would then also own Durant's Full Bird Rights, which would give Durant a higher starting salary.

Durant's four-year max contract this offseason would be $158.4 million, compared to $30 million in 18-19 followed by a five-year deal starting at $37.8 million and would be worth nearly $250 million over six years.

Warriors Will Pursue DeAndre Jordan

Jun 30, 2018 12:11 AM

The Golden State Warriors will explore their free agent chances with DeAndre Jordan.

The Warriors realize, however, their odds of landing him are slim.

Jordan was previously represented by Bob Myers and he signed an offer sheet with the Warriors in 2011. Jordan is also close with Kevin Durant.

The Dallas Mavericks are widely expected to sign Jordan, who opted out of his $24.1 million contract for the 18-19 season.

Steve Kerr, Warriors Close To Deal On Extension

Jun 30, 2018 12:41 AM

Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors are finalizing a contract extension.

Kerr will become one of the highest paid coaches in the NBA. Kerr signed a five-year, $25 million contract with the Warriors in 2014.

The Warriors have won the title in three out of Kerr's four seasons with the franchise.

Sources tell Monte Poole that Kerr's new extension will at least double his $5 million per years salary. While the contract length is not yet known, they were discussing adding at least three seasons.

Jamal Crawford, Warriors Have Mutual Interest

Jun 28, 2018 8:42 PM

The Golden State Warriors and Jamal Crawford have mutual interest.

The Warriors are unlikely to offer more than the veteran's minimum. Golden State is prioritizing players off the bench who can create their own shot this offseason.

It's unclear whether the Warriors are prepared to use their mini-midlevel exception on any player, but it likely won't be on Crawford.

Crawford spent last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

LeBron James Texts Kevin Durant About Joining Him With Lakers

Jun 28, 2018 11:21 AM

LeBron James has reportedly reached out to Kevin Durant via text about joining him with the Los Angeles Lakers.

"LeBron James reached out to Kevin Durant via text, from what I'm told, about coming to Los Angeles," said Stephen A. Smith. "I don't know what Kevin Durant's response to him was. That's not the information I got. But I will tell you that I did hear is that behind the scenes Kevin Durant was like 'why would I do that? You know what, as far as I'm concerned LeBron James is a big time player but the way I look at it, I should be perceived as the best in the world. Why would I think about doing something like that.'"

Durant will also be a free agent this offseason but he's so far expressed his intent to re-sign with the Golden State Warriors.

The long-term future of Durant with the Warriors, however, remains uncertain.

Stephen Curry's Agency Asked Warriors Not To Pick Him In 2009

Jun 27, 2018 8:29 AM

Stephen Curry was selected seventh overall by the Golden State Warriors in 2009, but his agency tried to get him to the New York Knicks at No. 8 even while they were on the clock on draft night.

"We were getting ready to make the (pick) and Steph's reps really wanted him to go to New York, who was right behind us at eight," said Travis Schlenk on KNBR. "And I remember getting a text from somebody in his agency saying, 'Please don't take Steph.'

"And I just texted back to him, I said 'Sorry, that's who we're taking.'

"We knew we were getting a great kid from a great family and we knew we were getting a great shooter. The knocks on Steph were is he gonna be able to guard, is he a point guard, is he gonna be strong enough, is he gonna be able to handle the physicalness of the NBA?

"Obviously, he's proven that it's been pretty easy for him."
