Warriors Sign Six Players Ahead Of Training Camp

Sep 29, 2023 8:49 AM

The Golden State Warriors signed six players ahead of training camp. NBA veterans Rudy Gay and Rodney McGruder headlined the signings. The list also included several players who will likely land with the Santa Cruz Warriors of the G League.

Gay and McGruder will be given opportunities to make the team out of training camp. Golden State has two open standard spots for their regular season roster.

Kendric Davis, Jayce Johnson, Javan Johnson and Donovan Williams will all be routed to Santa Cruz following the preseason. Jayce Johnson was already waived, as part of that procedural process.

Rudy Gay, Warriors Agree To Contract

Sep 27, 2023 11:44 AM

The Golden State Warriors said they wanted to fill out their bench with veterans who wouldn't be distractions. That's led them to Rudy Gay, who will go to camp with Golden State to compete for a roster spot for his 18th NBA season.

Gay was traded by the Utah Jazz for John Collins in a salary-clearing deal by the Atlanta Hawks earlier this offseason. The Hawks then traded Gay to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who subsequently waived the veteran forward.

Last season, Gay averaged 5.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per game over 56 appearances with the Jazz. He's also played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs in his 17-year career.

Warriors Looking For Players Who 'Won't Be A Distraction' To Fill Out Roster

Sep 26, 2023 1:02 AM

The Golden State Warriors are looking for players who can build upon the team's established chemistry to fill out its final roster spots, sources told Kendra Andrews of ESPN.

The Warriors, who currently have two open spots, are looking for players who won't be a distraction and will be happy to fill out the end of the roster.

"I don't think we have our sights set on any one thing right now in terms of a guard, a big, a wing, a young player, an old player," said Mike Dunleavy.

The team decided against signing Dwight Howard over the weekend while agreeing to a deal with Rodney McGruder on Monday.

Steve Kerr added that he has yet to decide whether Chris Paul will start next season.

"We basically have six starters the way I look at it, and only five can go each night. I haven't decided yet what we're going to do ... We are going to try different combinations and take a look," said Kerr.

Klay Thompson, Warriors Have Yet To Exchange Extension Offers

Sep 25, 2023 2:14 PM

Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors have not yet presented any official offers or counteroffers on a contract extension, sources tell Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Thompson is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024 if he doesn't agree to an extension.

There isn't a rush from either side on agreeing to an extension and there isn't a deadline.

Thompson is owed $43.1 million this season.

The Warriors recently signed Andrew Wiggins to a contract extension and Draymond Green to a new contract that was considered a slight discount on what they could have possibly received elsewhere.

The Golden State Warriors have decided not to sign Dwight Howard at this time.

Howard met with the Warriors over two days as they considered signing him ahead of the start of training camp.

Klay Thompson, Warriors Have Opened Extension Talks

Sep 15, 2023 5:30 PM

Klay Thompson is on a $43.219 million expiring contract with the Golden State Warriors with the two sides reportedly having begun early extension talks.

"My understanding is that they have opened contract extension talks with Klay Thompson," said Ramona Shelburne on the Lowe Post. "This is a slow process. This idea that he's been eligible for awhile and they haven't done anything... no, they've started talking. They've exchanged proposals. There's no hurry to these discussions. The optionality goes both ways. Not necessarily he's trying to leave, but just the optionality that he didn't have a great year last year. It behooves him to have a great year this year and he's becomes more valuable if he does."

The Warriors re-signed Draymond Green this past offseason as a free agent.

"They are definitely open to the idea of doing [an extension] because they've opened discussions with Klay Thompson. I think the years will probably be similar to what Draymond Green signed, which was a four-year deal. I think it will probably be similar. I don't know where they'll land on team option, player option. The money is going to be the question. And how that fits with the new CBA The restriction that implies. I know that the Warriors feel very strongly about keeping Klay Thompson and Draymond Green alongside Steph Curry."

Thompson was most recently a free agent in 2019 coming off his ACL injury and he swiftly signed a five-year, $189 million deal.
